 Story behind the painting

The other evening I was fly fishing Beaver Creek Reservoir. It was pretty solid action, and I was catching a rainbow trout every couple of casts. They were hungry for the ol’ Griffith’s Gnat with a slow, steady strip.

Then, all of a sudden, I hooked into a nice chunky lil brown trout that gave me one heck of a fight, stripping line off my reel and jumping out of the water like a little blue marlin.

After finally getting her in the net, I decided I’d better retie my fly because my tippet looked like a well-used bowstring that hadn’t been waxed in years.

After getting everything reset and ready to fish again, I looked up.

This is what I saw.

A beautiful sunset stretched out across the sky and reflecting off the water in front of me. I couldn’t stop staring at it.

I got so caught up in fishing that I forgot to look up and see what was right there in front of me the whole time.

God is absolutely amazing and so good to all of us. I’m so thankful for Him and for every single thing He has done for me and my entire family. Things like this remind me just how blessed we all are.

I knew right then that I needed to try and recreate that amazing moment with acrylic.
